A Velocipede Race With A Steamer (1869)

A velocipede race with a steamer

Yesterday morning the passengers with the steamer Lancelot from Largs were entertained to a race with a velocipede, ridden by Mr Scott who is residing at Largs. The velocipede started as the Lancelot threw off her lines at Largs quay and ran along the shore road at a speed almost equal to the steamer and ultimately gained Wemyss Bay first. This was excellent work, considering that the Lancelot is one of the fastest steamers on the Clyde and had only one stoppage on the way. –  Glasgow Journal.
