The Paris records were all done on a cement track. Doubtful. An amateur, B B Attlee, London County CC, has ridden 1 mile on grass in a min 40 2/5th secs. A W Harris has ridden 10 miles on grass at the Oval on a safety in 27 min 23 4/5th secs. With a strong wind behind them, Oct 18, 1891, S F Edge and J E L Bates have ridden 100 miles on an Olympia tandem tricycle, cushion-tyred, in 5 hours 30 min 31 secs.

In professional bicycling F J Lees, Sept 27 1880, at Middlesborough, rode 186 miles 1,408 yards in twelve consecutive hours: while J Battensby, June 21 1880, at Newcastle-on-Tyne, rode 211 miles 1,368 yards in fourteen consecutive hours: and H Higham March 18 1880, at the Agricultural Hall, London, rode 230 miles 469 yards without dismounting, in 16 hours 59 ½ mins. At the same place in 1879, G Waller had ridden 1,404 ½ miles in 6 days of 18 hours a day.

A V Linton, 1893 24 hours 26 ¼ min. F W Shortland, 1893. The English amateur path tricycle records are 1 mile 2min 28 sec, L Stroud 1893: 5 miles 12min 59 ½ sec. F T Bowen, 1893: 50 miles 2 hours 32min 22sec. F T Bidlake, 1892: 100 miles 5 hours 11min 30 ½ sec. In America J S Johnson on a safety, riding behind a sulky with a wind screen attached, covered a flying start mile in 1min 56 ½ sec on a kite-shaped track: on the road T A Edge has ridden 1000 miles in 5 days 5 hours 40 minutes on a safety and on a tandem safety, Holbein and Brown have ridden 202 ½ miles in 12 hours.

Tandem safety 5 hours 16min 24sec (A R Child and A M Todd, 1893)

50 miles. – Safety 2 hours 21min 46sec (A Pellaut): ordinary 2 hours 45min 55sec (S C Houghton, 1891): tricycle 2 hours 35min 17sec (S D Begbie): tandem tricycle 2 hours 10min 9sec (Begbie and Arnold): tandem safety bicycle 2 hours 10min 58sec (A R Child and E O Earl, 1893).
