Fined for Riding on the Footpath (1878)

William Hewitt, saddlers’ iron manufacturer and Samuel Walker, ammunition manufacturer, both residing in Summer Hill, Birmingham, were each fined 20s and costs for obstructing the footpath in the Lichfield Road, by riding tricycles upon it on the 26th ult. [Wages were only about 8 to 10s a week then]
