RAILWAYS AND CYCLISTS

TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES

Sir,

In France, in addition to merely charging the 10 centimes fee the company holds itself responsible for the safety of the bicycle during transit. At least, so I gather from my experience last Monday. After I had registered my bicycle at Rouen, the porter noticed that one of the handles was broken. He thereupon asked me to wait while the extent of the damage was written on my registration ticket observing that they were obliged to be careful in such matters as they were held responsible for the safe delivery of the bicycle.                     Believe me yours faithfully,

                                                                                                                        O.J
